MATC Hosts Sustainability Summit and Exposition April 13-15

Milwaukee Area Technical College will host the 13th annual “Sustainability Summit and Exposition” Wednesday-Friday, April 13-15, 2016. The theme of this year’s summit is “Smart is Sustainable: Collaborate, Innovate, Transform.” The summit is coordinated by business, education and government representatives.
On April 13-14, plenary and breakout sessions with local, regional, national and international experts will be held at Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, 1721 W. Canal Street. Friday events include tours of sustainability-related sites in Milwaukee.
The public is invited. Registration is $125 for the full conference or $75 for one day. Students will be admitted free of charge. Discounts are available for senior citizens, educators, staff of non-profit institutions and others. There will be a free shuttle to transport students from the Downtown Milwaukee Campus to the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino, leaving every hour on the hour beginning at 7 a.m..Catch the bus outside the Student Center. Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president, will present opening remarks at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 13. Dr. Mark Felsheim, vice president, MATC’s Oak Creek Campus, and chair, Sustainability Summit & Exposition; will lead opening ceremonies at 8 a.m. Thursday, April 14. Other MATC speakers and moderators include Ginny Routhe, MATC sustainability manager; and Jim Carpenter, MATC instructor, ecological economics.
Other notable speakers include: Ed Begley Jr., actor and activist; Ajita G. Rajendra, CEO, AO Smith; Dr. Steve Hargarten, Medical College, Office of Global Health; Clay Nesler, vice president, global energy and sustainability at Johnson Controls; Jeff Crawford, attorney general, Potawatomi; and Tom Barrett, Milwaukee mayor.
Topics include energy, water, lifestyle, business and workforce, education, energy efficiency, financing, green agriculture, green building, green business and manufacturing, green careers, innovation, recycling, renewables, social responsibility and transportation.
