MATC Hosted 2015 Sustainability Summit and Exposition March 4-6

Milwaukee Area Technical College hosted the 12th annual “Sustainability Summit and Exposition" March 4-6.The theme of the 2015 summit was“Sovereignty & Survival,” in recognition of emerging global realities. The summit was coordinated by business, education and government representatives. Previously called the Green Energy Summit, the name of the event was changed in 2013 to reflect the broadened scope of the conference, which encompassed systems and practices that sustain the economy and planet for future generations.
On March 4-5, plenary and breakout sessions with local, regional, national and international experts were held at the Wisconsin Center. In conjunction with the summit, a career fair featuring approximately 30 employers with openings in a variety of fields from green jobs to manufacturing was held March 4 at the Wisconsin Center. Workshops were held March 6 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Continuing Education Conference Center, the Global Water Center and Growing Power.
The summit was open to the public. Students were admitted free of charge and substantial discounts were available for senior citizens, educators, staff of non-profit institutions and others. For complete conference details, visit the summit webpage at http://www.sustainabilitysummit.us.
Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president, presented opening remarks March 4 and served as a panelist at a March 5 session. Dr. George Stone, MATC instructor of natural science; and Dr. Mark Felsheim, vice president of MATC’s Oak Creek Campus, co-chaired the summit. Each also chaired a plenary session. Dr. Mohammad Dakwar, MATC provost, gave opening remarks March 5. MATC instructors James Carpenter, Steven Watrous and Toni Wulff also participated in breakout sessions.
